Paul Houghton Mediation

Fee Structure

The following relate to two party mediations, held on the UK mainland, and are indicative only and subject to separate agreement in all cases.

The basic fee covers a 10 hour mediation day. Travel arrangements and/or distance to drive may govern when the process has to stop, but I will advise parties of any particular restrictions when quoting.

Should the matter continue beyond 10 hours, an hourly rate of £400 plus VAT per hour (or part thereof) will be charged.

The fee also includes all expenses, unless there is an overrun, in which case I would charge consequential expenses such as further hotel accommodation or travel costs, and ask the parties to meet these equally between themselves.

Low Value/Time-limited Mediations

For cases valued at below £100,000 (where the parties genuinely believe that a case will settle early), I offer a basic fee of £2000 plus VAT split equally between the parties to cover the first 4 hours of mediation. After that, if the parties agree to continue, I will charge a rate of £400 plus VAT per hour (or part thereof) to a maximum of £3000 plus VAT for a day (as set out above).

To make this work in cases where I need to be travelling the night before (anywhere more than 100 miles from my home in West Yorkshire), I would have to charge all expenses in addition to the fee.
